Their horseback riding tours are a great way to spend a few hours enjoying the sights and sounds of Guanacaste, whether it is on a country road passing local cattle farms, a creekside trail through the tropical dry forest, or along the ocean surf of Costa Rica's hidden gem beaches, it is an experience of a lifetime.
The horses are beautiful and raised at the ranch in Tempate and trained at the stable in Potrero by Marvin and his family. Most are the Paso Costarricense breed which are renowned in Costa Rica, a mix of Berber and Andalusian breeds of Europe and Peruvian Pasos, or Paso Finos well known for their smooth gait. These are excellent work horses popular for cattle ranchers or trail riding and the pride of Guanacaste ranchers. They also have some Painted horses or Pintos which are well suited for Costa Rica and increasingly more common here.
BoMar offers 1st class horseback riding excursions daily. Tours usually run in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the hottest time of day. Morning tours are usually 2 hours riding from the stable through back roads in Surfside or Potrero then returning along the beach. At low tide they have another tour that visits Prieta, Penca and Potrero beach.
Longer excursions can be arranged for more experienced riders.
We highly recommend long pants and comfortable shoes. No sandals please.
